Duquesne woman’s car badly damaged in overnight storms

Fallen trees did damage in Duquesne overnight. Now, neighbors are asking for something to be done to prevent an even bigger issue.

A stump is all that remains of one of the trees after it toppled onto Laura Elmore’s car.

“I said, ‘What the hell is this?’” Laura told Channel 11 she woke up around 3 a.m. and saw the tree on her car. Crews from the City of Duquesne cleared that tree Wednesday revealing shattered windows, a dented hood and more.

Across the street, it was a rude wakeup call for Holly Lipinski.

“We heard a lot of wind coming through our house. I thought our windows were going to come in. My husband said ‘check outside, I don’t see the trampoline.’ I came to the front and was like ‘oh, we got a problem.’”

The trampoline had hopped Holly’s backyard fence and was wrapped around a tree. A number of branches from that tree fell, knocking out the back windshield of an SUV.

Neighbors say the trees there are old and belong to Duquesne. They’d like to see the remaining ones cut down.

“I don’t feel safe with the tree still there,” Holly said.

“Who’s gonna pay for my car? I can’t afford to pay for no car,” Laura said. “I’m not broke. I’m not on a fixed income. I’m on a broke [expletive] income and they need to know that.”

Channel 11 did reach out to the City of Duquesne to find out who is responsible for those trees. So far, we haven’t heard back.
