Sidney council okays fire department filling swimming pools further away from town
(Sidney) -- Pending an insurance review, Sidney officials have given the green light to the fire department to assist area residents in filling their pools this summer. During its latest regular meeting, the Sidney City Council, by a 3-1 vote, approved allowing Sidney Fire and Rescue to fill pools outside of its fire district pending a review of insurance for liability concerns. Sidney Fire Chief Dustin Sheldon says his department has typically filled pools within city limits and the surrounding townships with its 2,000-gallon pumper truck without a "per trip" cost since the rural board of trustees provides the insurance and the city provides the water for the vehicle. However, Sheldon says they have received a more significant number of requests from outside their fire district.
