20-year-old motorcyclist killed in Dumfries hit-and-run

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Police in Prince William County are investigating after a man was killed in a hit-and-run in Dumfries on Wednesday night.

Officers responded to the area of Richmond Hwy. and Pine Bluff Drive at 10:19 p.m. Police say a motorcyclist was speeding southbound on Richmond Hwy. when a pickup truck entered an intersection in the motorcycle’s path.

The motorcycle and truck collided and the driver of the pickup fled the scene.

The motorcyclist, 20-year-old Joseph Emmanuel Word, was taken to the hospital where he died.

The pickup truck was found abandoned behind a business near the crash site. Despite searching, officers said they could not find the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
