Dumas' Ireland, Canadian's Black voted Happy State Bank Athletes of the Week

Dumas' Keegan Ireland and Canadian's Arionna Black have been voted the Happy State Bank Male and Female High School Athlete of the Week for March 11-16.

Ireland won the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Region I Division 2 championships at 242, with a total of 1,870 lbs.

Black had a standout day at the Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Relays, winning the pole vault (8-feet, 6-inches), the 800 and as part of the Canadian gold medal 1,600-meter relay. She also set a personal best in the 400, clocking 1:00.8, finishing second.

Ireland received 11,866 of the 23,060 votes cast for male athlete of the week, which was 49.5% of total votes.

Black drew 22,726 of the 45,015 votes cast for female athlete of the week, which was 50.5% of total votes.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible and can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Monday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com.

Please include statistics from the week's games and any pertinent information or honors.

Voting runs Tuesday through Thursday each week.
