One of the top 25 beaches in the US can be found in Duluth

Park Point Beach in Duluth made the cut on a recent list of the best 25 beaches in the country.

Travel and Leisure published the list earlier this month.

The article doesn’t list specific criteria for the beaches it chose but instead emphasized the factors that can make a destination appealing to different visitors.

“Some beaches are found next to crystalline lakes, while others are beneath the peaks of majestic mountain ranges,” the article reads.

“Some are surf havens with stellar waves, while others cater to families with calm waters and things to do right on the sand."

While most of the 25 beaches listed are found on the coasts or Hawaii, a few Midwest spots were also mentioned. That includes Park Point Beach.

The world's longest freshwater sandbar, Travel and Leisure says the beach feels like an "ocean locale."

“It offers great views of Duluth and Lake Superior and is known for its spectacular sunrises.” the article reads. “A nearby playground, barbecue grills, and a ball field are all popular with visitors.”

The article also points out that the beach is dog-friendly.

The Park Point peninsula has itself been in the news recently over the acquisition of property on the strip by Kathy Cargill, a member of the billionaire Cargill family.
