CARTHARGE, Mo (KOAM) - Midwestern Built Carthage joins other gyms around the country to commemorate Memorial Day with a tradition—the annual Murph Challenge workout. The workout honors Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who died in Afghanistan in 2005 and was awarded the Medal of Honor.

The artist who created the Precious Moments figurines depicting angelic teardrop-eyed children has died. Sam Butcher was 85. The company said in a Facebook post that he died early Monday surrounded by family. It said his life’s mission was “to share God’s gift of love with the world.” No details about his cause of death were provided. Thousands of designs have been produced over the decades, and fans of his work flock each year the Precious Moments Inspiration Park and Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri.

Carthage couple offering free saplings to residents to inspire native tree repopulation
CARTHAGE, Mo. — With countless trees lost to a recent tornado, a Carthage couple is stepping up to help rebuild the local canopy. Eli and Vanessa Bruton are offering free trees to Carthage residents. They’ve bought 3,000 native saplings, including maples, oaks, dogwoods, and sumac. They hope the project will help repopulate yards, especially since the city is known as the “Maple Leaf City.”
