Migrants evacuated from Rotterdam motel
Town officials ordered the mandatory evacuation Wednesday afternoon after finding the fire alarm and sprinkler system inoperable. “We’ve been told it could take up to a couple of weeks (to make repairs),” said Bill Sherman, of Allies For Justice Schenectady County, a volunteer organization that’s been providing assistance for migrant families since they moved into the Super 8 in July 2023.

Aquatic Center returns to Schenectady under latest agreement in saga
The long-planned Capital Region Aquatic Center has finally found a home in Schenectady. The $41 million dollar swimming complex will be built on a downtown parcel owned by Schenectady County and Schenectady County Community College, located on the block between State Street, South Church Street, South Ferry Street and Fuller Street.

A Schenectady man was indicted Friday, May 10, and is accused of traveling from Albany to Louisiana to engage in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. Peter Nealon, 66, faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
First draft of Guilderland’s future presented, mapping priorities
GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Comprehensive Plan Update Committee recently took a major step forward in its update of Guilderland’s two-decades-old land-use plan. On May 14, project consultants from MJ Engineering provided the committee with an overview of the preliminary draft; the plan is to have the public comment in August or September.
Police: New Jersey man tried to con woman out of $40,000
New Jersey man accused of trying to scam senior citizen. A New Jersey man is facing charges for allegedly trying to scam a Colonie resident out of $40,000. Dhruv P. Patel, 33, of Franklin Park, is accused of posing as a member of the Federal Trade Commission in a phone call. Patel told the resident that his name was “Patrick” and he claimed that she was a victim of identity theft and should remove all funds from her bank accounts and turn them over to him for safekeeping, Colonie Police said.

Bennington man convicted of federal gun and drug charges
BURLINGTON, Vt. — A man accused of a 2019 murder in Bennington County was convicted in federal court yesterday on three drug and gun charges. Vermont State Police arrested Deven Moffitt in Bennington on June 1, 2022. When he was searched police found over 3,500 bags of fentanyl, bags of cocaine and cocaine base, two loaded guns, and over $16,000 in cash.
