Receiving their quilts
PAX Sound of Freedom awarded six Quilts of Valor June 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington Park. Veterans who received quilts were Kenneth (Randy) Clark (U.S. Army, 3 years), Harold Smith (U.S. Air Force, 22 years), Frank Rollins (U.S. Air Force, 34 years), Bernard Thompson (U.S. Army, 4 years), Cody Brennan (U.S. Marine Corps, 5 years) and Pete Cardona (U.S. Army, 3 years). Quilts of Valor Foundation is a nonprofit national organization that has presented 393,702 quilts to active duty personnel and veterans. If you, a family member or friend served in the U.S. armed forces, you are entitled to receive a Quilt of Valor. PAX Sound of Freedom meets on the second Saturday of each month to sew quilts at St. George’s Catholic Church in Valley Lee, and awards quilts on the third Saturday of each month at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington Park. Morgan resigns from Dorchester County School Board
The last day of the school year in Dorchester County, Friday, June 14, was also Dr. Susan Morgan's final day serving on the Board of Education. Morgan resigned from the Board, effective immediately, and also withdrew her candidacy in the upcoming November election. Morgan sent an email informing newly appointed Superintendent Dr. Jymil Thompson, School Board President Mike Diaz, and the other three Board members of her decision to end her tenure immediately. She also emailed those supporting her campaign for reelection to represent District Three on the School Board of her decision, acknowledging doing so "with a heavy heart."
Dorchester BOE votes to terminate alternative education contract
CAMBRIDGE — Following a tense discussion, the Dorchester County Board of Education voted to terminate its three-year contract with Vision Quest, an alternative education program for district high schoolers that has been met with criticism from residents since it was approved in September. Board member Chris Wheedleton, who voted against approving the contract in September, made the motion at a board meeting Thursday to terminate the contract for convenience.
