A restaurant owner who was forced to close one of his Dover-Foxcroft businesses after a fire in January has opened a new eatery in town.

Tejai Lee opened Fiesta Wey at 920 West Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft late last month. A logo on the restaurant’s Facebook page refers to the business as a “Mexican grill.”

Lee opened Chew 62 on North Street in December 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He defied the pressures that forced other restaurants to close and opened a second business , Tap 62: The Lounge, in 2022. The cocktail and dessert lounge expanded dining options in the small, rural town.

Chew 62 closed indefinitely in January after an attic fire that was believed to be extinguished rekindled. It left area residents wondering whether Lee would reopen the restaurant or invest in the town in a new way.

Fiesta Wey, which opened in the location where Tap 62 operated, replaces the lounge. It’s unclear whether Chew 62 will reopen, and Lee was not immediately available to comment Friday.

Chew 62 announced the opening of Fiesta Wey in a Facebook post on April 26.

“Come and enter a new era with us this weekend,” the post said. “You can’t keep us from moving forward no matter what stands in our Wey!!”
