Edmond's Pelican Bay pool reopens after major $7.2 million fix
EDMOND − The grand reopening of Edmond's Pelican Bay Aquatic Center should go swimmingly. Earlier-than-usual extreme heat and a longer-than-planned off season should have the city-owned pool and mini water park packed when its opens to the public on Saturday, July 18, after $7.2 million in renovations paid for by the 2017 capital improvement projects sales tax. The work was supposed to have been done in time for Memorial Day weekend. Pelican Bay, at 1034 S Bryant Ave., opened in 2002, has been closed since the end of the last summer season. The pool was leaking up to 20,000 gallons of water per day. "After months of hard work, we're excited to welcome everyone back to Pelican Bay," Mayor Mark Nash said. "While the project took longer than expected due to unforeseen repairs and a weather delay or two, the result is a safer, refreshed, and improved facility that will serve Edmond families for years to come." Nash thanked residents for their patience and support and welcomed people back to make more memories. More: Could Edmond sales tax go completely to fixing one stretch of road?
