DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A Dothan restaurant owner has officially filed a lawsuit against the City of Dothan, asking for millions.

Latonya Dorsey, owner and operator of Mama T’s, filed a federal lawsuit on Tuesday, April 30. She is asking for $25 million.

Dorsey has been hinting at a lawsuit since her fight against the city started in May 2022. She claimed city employees exposed her bid for a federal after-school feeding program to multiple parties, resulting in her being outbid by Breakfast At Tammies.

After losing out on the bid, Dorsey says employees or agents of the city tried to conceal it as a “personnel matter” and tried to harass and intimidate her.

The nearly two-year battle with the city has culminated in Dorsey and her attorney saying they finally have enough information to move forward with the suit and have a “really good case.”

The Dothan restauranteur says after this experience, she wants to be “economically whole.”

The after-school feeding program is an initiative that feeds around 150 kids snacks and dinner daily. The scandal surrounding the program sparked an investigation by the FBI and Dothan Police Department.

The program has since been taken over by Dothan City Schools.
