Armed man arrested outside Dixon VFW on Sunday

DIXON, Ill. (WTVO) — An Illinois man was arrested at a Dixon V.F.W. after police were alerted that the subject, a convicted felon, was armed with a gun.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, around 2:11 p.m. on Sunday, May 12th, authorities were informed that John Persona, 60, had left a residence in Nachusa with a gun.

An Illinois Conservation Police Officer spotted Persona’s vehicle headed westbound on Illinois Route 38 into Dixon.

When Persona reportedly pulled into the V.F.W. at 1560 Illinois Route 38, officers approached and found a firearm in the vehicle, police said.

Persona was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and Possession of a Firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification card.
