Eugene mom's bodybuilding discipline powers her career, inspires daughter
Every day, Alejandra Collazo Gonzalez lugs a gallon of water to her office at Lane Community College where she downs it all throughout the workday. After balancing the books on LCC's budget team, Collazo Gonzalez, 38, hits the gym every week night — a nod to her history of bodybuilding and powerlifting competition days. Her personal records include a 245-lbs. squat when Collazo Gonzalez weighed just 120 lbs. Collazo Gonzalez has taken a step back from competition, but still keeps up her strength. "I think as a woman, it's very empowering," Collazo Gonzalez said. "When you're very low-calorie and you're still having to go to the gym, you just muster whatever energy you can, including coffee, during that time. It's very challenging and I think that that has allowed me to continue to take on challenges." Collazo Gonzalez has been working off-and-on in LCC's budget team four years and has held her role as a senior budget analyst for four years, but her history with the college goes back even further. Building strength physically and mentally Collazo Gonzalez grew up in Vancouver, Washington. In 2014, she moved to Eugene at age 26 and decided to enroll in LCC. Collazo Gonzalez

After a year of slinging Detroit-style pizzas in town, the business is taking over a new space and expanding. Fitti's is a family affair Fitti’s Pizza is a family affair. Two of Sam’s five children work at Fitti’s. Sam’s brother Joe helps with operational knowledge and older brother Jesse is helping with construction. Fittipaldi said there’s a different set of challenges in place when working with family, but the Eugene-native clan is grateful for the opportunity to provide a type of pizza the area lacked. After spending a decade passionate about bread making, Sam and Joe attended the San Francisco Baking Institute to master their craft. The pizza at Fitti’s comes on a three-day, cold-fermented crust. Once baked, the edges crisp into a golden brown. One bite gives way to a fluffy, soft interior and the crust has enough integrity to handle a
