Near record highs today with a blizzard less than 48 hours away
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Very warm temperatures are on tap for the area today with a warm front that has lifted to the northeast. High temperatures will range from the lower 70s northwest to the low to mid 80s south and east. This will push high temperatures very close to record highs later today. Winds will be breezy out of a southwest or westerly direction. While not strong, they could gust up to around 25 mph or so. They may not be as strong southwest of the Tri-Cities area. Due to a big drop in relative humidity, an elevated threat for wildfires will be possible today. From 10:00am to 8:00pm, a red flag warning will be in place for all, except for those southwest of the Tri-Cities. The overnight remains fairly quiet, although a cold front will be pushing southward through part of the area. Lows will range from the lower 30s northwest to the mid 40s southeast. With the cold front moved through much of the area, we’ll see a large range in high temperatures from the 40s northwest to the lower 80s southeast. There will still be a threat for fire issues over Northern portions of Kansas.
