DETROIT (WWJ) -- The search continues for two suspects wanted in connection with a quadruple shooting at a Detroit park Wednesday night.

The gunman and a female accomplice remained at large Friday morning, police said, while the victims — two kids, ages three and six years old, as well as two 18-year-old women — were being treated at hospitals.

One of the women who was shot was said to be pregnant, WWJ's Charlie Langton reported.

Speaking to reporters, Detroit Police Chief James White said an argument between two young women escalated to violence at Stein Park, in the area of Westfield Ave. and Faust.

It was reported that one of the women yelled out to a young man who then fired shots, wounding two women as well as the children.

Speaking to WWJ's Jon Hewett and other reporters at a Day of Prayer event on Thursday, Chief White said the kids were unrelated bystanders in the park with their families.

He called the shooting "very tragic," and vowed to catch the culprits.

"A situation where, once again, someone has to be tough and bring a gun to what would've been a fight between two women that everybody would've survived and gone home, and we wouldn't have two children shot," the chief said.

"But someone thought because they had a gun they were tough. They pulled out a gun, and unfortunately two innocent children were shot," he said. "And we're gonna use every resource we have to get this person off the street."

White described the conditions of the four victims.

"The two children's condition are stable. But, as you can imagine, you know, because of their age, they're going through a lot of tests," White said. "And the two adult females are serious condition at this time."

The alleged shooter and an accomplice, police said, are both believed to be around 18 years old.

Hewett asked the chief if investigators are close to identifying the shooter.

"We're working through that right now. I'm confident in this team," White said, Thursday afternoon. "Unfortunately, we've been here before. We know the work that these investigators and detectives put into this, and we'll be announcing something soon."

Anyone with information about this case should call Detroit Police at 313-267-4600 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK UP. In an emergency, as always, dial 911.
