DES MOINES, Iowa– The Iowa Cubs had to postpone their game against the Omaha Storm Chasers due to severe weather on Tuesday night, but the I-Cubs made up for the missed game and even had some special fans in the crowd.

Students form South Hamilton schools packed Principal Park Wednesday for the game and for one student this game was extra special.

“William is five-years-old and he is currently in treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and we are nearing the end May 13 is our final day of chemo. He had his last big procedure Monday so he’s struggling a little bit this week,” said Leah Phipps, William’s mom.

But that procedure didn’t stop William from taking to the mound and throwing the first pitch, and the crowd in the stands went wild to support his accomplishment.

“This is a celebration, I feel like every day is a little bit of a celebration to getting closer to being done. We’re excited for the opportunity, he loves sports and he loves baseball so he’s been pretty excited all week,” said Phipps.

William’s teachers also shared how proud they were, saying he never fails to bring a smile to their faces every day.
