Suspect in Marshall County double-murder arrested in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — A man wanted on two counts of first-degree murder out of Marshall County was arrested in Des Moines over the weekend.

Ilias Julian Lasley, 33, was taken into custody without incident Saturday afternoon in the 4700 block of Merle Hay Road, according to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged in the deaths of 28-year-old Mario Murillo and 33-year-old Frances Tillie Gasca, both of Marshalltown.

Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies discovered Murillo and Gasca deceased at a home in the 2600 block of 182nd Street , north of Marshalltown, around 1:45 a.m. on Friday after performing a welfare check.

The MCSO has not released any information about a possible motive in the killings.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force, Tama County Sheriff’s Office, Marshalltown Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, U.S. Marshal’s Office, Grinnell Police Department, and Meskwaki Police Department have all assisted in the investigation.

Lasley is being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond.
