Saydel’s Lake No Hits Perry Softball
Saydel defeated Perry 3-0 Monday night in Heart of Iowa softball action in Des Moines. The game turned out to be a pitching battle between Dakota Lake and Maci Tunink. The Saydel right hander was dominant from the start, striking out the side in the first inning and never slowing down. Lake struck out 10 while allowing only two baserunners in tossing her second no-hitter of the season. Tunink was solid as well, allowing two earned runs over six strong innings.

Over 120 Cars Registered for the 14th Annual Dallas Co. Sheriff’s Office Special Olympics All-Wheels Show Saturday
Over 120 classic and modern cars registered in the 14th Annual Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Special Olympics All-Wheels Show on Saturday. A variety of cars were parked and were looked at by the public while being judged to win one of the six trophies presented in downtown Adel. Sergeant Ray Dirksen said the weather was gorgeous for a car show and thanked everyone for coming out and supporting the event. Dirksen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that all the proceeds will fund the Special Olympics Iowa non-profit organization.

ADM Tiger Softball team loses tough game on the road to Bondurant-Farrar
The ADM varsity softball team traveled to Bondurant to take on the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays in a Raccoon River Conference regular season matchup last night. The ADM Tigers lost a tough one 1-0 Bondurant-Farrar as the game come down to extra innings. It sure was a pitchers dual between ADM’s Freshman Lauren Hagedorn and Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays pitcher Jacki Baas as they were both pitching well in the game. ADM Tigers were only allowed three hits in the game with all singles hit by Freshman Lauren Hagedorn, Junior Cameran Smith and sophomore Kennedy Stanford. Freshman Lauren Hagedorn pitched the whole game for the ADM Tigers and she went 7 & 2/3 of a inning and had eleven strikeouts in the game.

The 2023 boys and girls soccer and tennis team state tournaments concluded last week. The boys state soccer tournament saw Western Christian win the 1A state title, Gilbert take first in 2A, Iowa City Liberty prevail in 3A and Johnston bring home the title in 4A. On the girls side, Bishop Heelan was victorious in 1A, Dallas Center-Grimes repeated in 2A and Johnston made it a clean sweep for the Dragons soccer programs by earning the 3A title.

Indianola Softball Sweeps Norwalk in Ranked Clash
The #5 Indianola softball team swept #3 Norwalk in a road doubleheader Monday winning 12-4 and 2-1 in a pair of games heard live on 94.3 KNIA. Game one saw fireworks early, as Indianola scored seven unanswered in the first three innings to take a big lead, which included a solo home run from Kiley Kindelspire and a three-run shot by Jordyn Gripp, with Tessa Gripp also adding a home run. Norwalk attempted a comeback in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of an Indianola error and an RBI single from Lauren Black, but the Indians answered every Norwalk challenge with more runs. Indianola scored two more in the fourth with RBI hits from Brynn Ortlund and Dana Blake, and Tessa Gripp added more insurance in the seventh with another two-run home run to get to the final tally.

Less than a week after Dowling Catholic’s graduation ceremony — and a few days before his own graduation party — Jackson Heidesch gave himself a bit of a gift. The former Maroons cross country and track star traveled to St. Louis on Thursday for the Hoka Festival of Miles, where he ran the high school boys championship mile in 3 minutes, 59.08 seconds.
