Homicide investigation underway in Iowa after woman with blunt-force injuries dies

DES MOINES, Iowa — Police are investigating a homicide after a woman who was brought to a Des Moines hospital early Friday morning died.

Officers were initially called to UnityPoint Health-Iowa Methodist Medical Center to investigate a report of a stabbing victim just before 3:00 a.m., according to Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department. The victim, a 49-year-old woman, had been brought to the hospital by a private vehicle.

The investigation determined the woman had blunt-force traumatic injuries and had not been stabbed. Sgt. Parizek said she died from her injuries, despite life-saving efforts.

Police have determined the scene of the incident was the 1100 block of 14th Place. Sgt. Parizek said there’s no ongoing danger to the neighborhood.

The woman’s name is not being released at this time.

This is Des Moines’ third homicide of 2024.
