Denver Broncos cut ties with two players including veteran wide receiver

On a day in which the Denver Broncos officially welcomed most of their rookie class, they needed to release two players to make room. The Broncos signed several rookies to contracts on Friday, including quarterback Bo Nix.

But all of those moves, including bringing in 13 undrafted free agents , left the Broncos a tad over the 90-man roster limit. They needed to let go of two players and that ended up being wide receiver Phillip Dorsett and defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence.

Dorsett was once a first-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts. The Broncos were the sixth NFL team for Dorsett. He spent most of the 2023 season on the practice squad but was active for two games. He did not catch a pass.

Lawrence was signed to a future contract this past January but he just became a victim of the numbers game. The Broncos signed Malcolm Roach and Angelo Blackson in free agency while also trading for John Franklin-Myers during the draft. After signing Jordan Miller and Brandon Matterson as undrafted players, there is no room for Lawrence.

A fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2020, Lawrence has played for four other teams in his career.
