Businesses Downtown Bedford Series: Perfectly Polished Nail Salon
I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Candice Smith, owner of Perfectly Polished Nail Salon in downtown Bedford. Ms. Smith has been in business for 15 years. A lot of her business is from repeat customers and referrals. When I walked into her shop, I was truly impressed. The nail art is awesome, and the nail services are reasonably priced.

Inside the Cleveland business keeping home winemaking alive, for now
On the other side of a sliding glass window, Carl Cocita sat in a cramped, fluorescent-lit office, doing what he’s done for years: taking orders and talking about wine. He still writes out each order by hand, selling grapes by the box and juice by the 6-gallon pail. Customers ask him how cold they should keep the juice and when they should “rack off” the wine into bottles.

Business Hall of Fame: Joe Kubic
Joe Kubic did not want to start an agency. He wanted the Cleveland shop that hired him out of college to stop making ads the old way. A flier then was a week of work. It was a slow, manual pre-digital process from laying out type to preparing camera-ready artwork, and separating colors for press. But as a student at Kent State University, he watched an Apple computer donated to the student center complete similar work in a matter of minutes.

Toledo business owners share impact of massive chemical spill
Hello! I'm back from a period of leave and glad to be sharing some of the latest Akron-area news with you. In today's top story from reporters Bryce Buyakie and Lauren Cohen, read about the impact of the Oct. 20 Toledo chemical spill on neighbors, such as Skyline Party Rental and Shoreland Animal Hospital. Then, check out reporter Derek Kreider's story on how the elimination of minimum lot sizes from Akron's code will pave the way for developers to build on thousands of new lots. Below, you'll also find reporter Mark J. Price's story on the demolition of the building at 211 W. Market St. in Akron. Here's an eye-opener for me that I wasn't aware about: The building served as a showroom for the Marmon Motor Co., of which my paternal great-grandfather George Williams served as president. How the Toledo chemical spill is impacting businesses, residents Rob Duling didn't know until a friend texted him that a leaking 5,500-gallon tank at a facility in north Toledo was spewing billowing chemical smoke into the sky late on Oct. 20, directly next door to his business, Skyline Party Rental. He was miles away at his home in the Toledo suburb of
