Wedge of cooler air locks in for Thursday
Wednesday evening update: Fall has entered the chat. Today’s 75° high at Bush Field marks the coolest day the Augusta area has seen since May 31st. Some spots were stuck in the 60s north of I-20. High pressure to our north is funneling cooler air south along the eastern side of the Appalachians, creating a “wedge” of cool air. At the same time, a southerly flow of moisture over that dense cool air is bringing cloud cover.

Weekend heat, scattered storms, and a cooler pattern on the horizon for the CSRA
Saturday evening update: A weak frontal boundary has settled near the region today, and it’s helping create just enough lift for some isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening. Highs were in the low to mid-90s with dewpoints hanging in the upper 60s to lower 70s, so the atmosphere has enough fuel for storms.
