Walk-off home run propels Perrysburg softball past Springfield in district final
CLYDE, Ohio — Hitting a walk-off home run to win a game is what players dream of. For Perrysburg's Jessica Miller, it became reality Friday. With Springfield surging to tie the game late, Miller took advantage of a pitch over the plate, slamming a solo shot over the left-field fence, lifting second-seeded Perrysburg to a 9-8 Division I district championship over the third-seeded Blue Devils at Joe Wilson Field at Clyde High School. "I was really hoping to hit a line drive just to get on base," Miller said. "A walk is a walk. I was going to be on base and I knew at some point, I was going to be that winning run."
Anthony Wayne softball records 3rd straight tournament shutout
BOWLING GREEN — Stingy pitching and one big inning of offense were the main ingredients for Anthony Wayne on Friday night, as the third-ranked Generals captured their fourth straight Division I district softball title with a 7-0 victory over Mansfield Madison at Bowling Green State University's Meserve Field. Anthony Wayne (25-1), which had clinched a Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division championship with a resounding 15-5 win at Perrysburg on Monday, made it 3-for-3 with tournament shutouts so far by blanking the Rams (20-6) from the Ohio Cardinal Conference. Senior right-hander Kat Meyers, who will pitch next year for the University of Michigan, followed her seven-inning, 18-strikeout perfect game from the Generals 4-0 district semifinal win over Start on Tuesday with five innings of two-hit shutout pitching versus Madison. “I felt pretty good today in warm-ups,” Meyers said. “The field was a little wet, but that's all right. You've just kind of got to work with it and dig it out a little bit. “Our defense was great. I always have my full confidence in them. I had the same mindset as I did on Tuesday — one batter at a time.”

A spectacular break of good fortune led to an opportunistic double play at a pivotal moment to portend it might just be the Maumee softball team's day in the Panthers' 5-1 Division II district final victory over Otsego on Saturday afternoon at Genoa High School. A sharply hit ground ball by Otsego's Cailyn Rider with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the third ricocheted off of Maumee shortstop Lilly Duling's foot and straight to second baseman Julia Coutcher, who maintained her composure as if turning a routine 6-4-3 double play and proceeded to get the force...
