Run for the Wall
HARTFORD — Run for the Wall, an annual motorcycle ride spanning from Ontario, California, to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. (with a three-day extension to the Middle East Conflicts Wall in Marseilles, Illinois) honors veterans, raising awareness for missing soldiers, and facilitating the healing of veterans. The annual ride makes a stop in Hartford, stopping at Amoco off Big Creek Road. Amoco reimburses gas station operators for the cost of the fuel for those participating in the ride to fill up their gas tanks. North Carolina Highway Patrol officers met the riders in Hartford to take over the escort at the North Carolina state line. Between 260 and 300 motorcycles were in the group when they stopped at Harford. They were also accompanied by support vehicles.

Eyes right!
Since we have Military Memorial Day (and its companion Cemetery Decoration Day) coming this weekend, I thought I would spend five minutes of your time with at least a little mention of that. I clearly remember marching and drilling and going through the various commands that are included in all of that. I was in the Cocke County High School Big Red Marching Band for two years, and knew full well how to march when I got to Tennessee Tech’s ROTC classes and Thursdays on...
