Is Taking a Minor Worth It?
For college students, adding a minor can mean gaining new skills while taking on additional coursework, costs and time. According to Tanya Hargrove, a University of North Georgia career specialist and internship coordinator, the value of pursuing a minor depends on how clearly it supports a student’s goals. Hargrove said students should understand their desired career path before choosing a minor.

However, there seems to be a disconnect between showing school pride and showing school spirit at university sporting events. Although people show up to home games all the time, student attendance...

Rome 38, River Ridge 21
Time to throw away the donut, the one that had been grown stale sitting under Rome High School's football win total since Aug. 21. The Wolves basically earned their first win under new head coach Bill Stewart in the 2026 season in the first half Friday, opposition coming from another winless group from Region 6-6A, the River Ridge Knights. The 24-0 halftime cushion Rome enjoyed — which grew to 31 early in the second half — got a little uncomfortable halfway through the fourth quarter. With a bruising touchdown run of 38 yards from Ja'ckijay Robinson in a back-up role, the Wolves were able to get back into celebratory mode and count down the last seconds of a 38-21 victory. The win came on a night of even more celebration of Rome football — the greatest victory of the Wolves era — for the 10-year anniversary of the 2016 state champions. The Barron Stadium video screen showed portions of the win over Buford in Atlanta, and players were introduced along with former head coach John Reid. Rome's struggles in 2026 came to a halt for one night as Stewart used a rotation at quarterback with Zayden Winston and Ja'Tavious Smith

Carter pleased with Allatoona's progress in Year 1
Allatoona closes out the home portion of its regular season schedule when it hosts Cass in a Region 7AAAAA game at Buccaneer Stadium. While Allatoona is 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the region, first-year coach Paul Carter said he is encouraged by the progress his team has made this season against a challenging schedule. “We’ve made a lot of progress as a football team and as a program just in the amount of knowledge our kids have about the work ethic that we’ve kind of tried to instill and the standard we’re trying to bring,” Carter said. “With the playoffs the way they are, it makes it super interesting. I think we have the second hardest schedule of any team in Class AAAAA. So, that being said, we’ve battled and we’ve been in some serious battles and we play hard, so we’ve done well for what we’ve been up against.” With Allatoona’s postseason chances appearing slim as it approaches the last two games of the 2026 campaign – with the Buccaneers finishing the season on the road against Woodland of Cartersville – Carter said the focus for his team is simply to work to improve over its final two contests.
