DAYTON, Ohio ( WTRF ) — A Dayton man has been arrested after his father’s body parts were found at two different sites in Trotwood and Dayton. According to the Dayton Daily News , the investigation started at the dead man’s home in Kettering, Ohio.

Dayton Daily News reports that Edgar S. Keiter Jr., 52, has been charged with gross abuse of a corpse and three counts of tampering with evidence. The news outlet reports that it is unclear if any additional charges will be filed.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s website, Keiter was arrested on May 1 at 10:33 a.m. and booked into the Montgomery County Jail shortly after 4 p.m. Dayton Daily News reports that a court date is slated for Monday, May 5. Keiter’s bail is set at $1 million.

The twisted tale started unraveling on April 22, when it was reported that Trotwood police responded to the 7500 block of Old Dayton Road after a man texted the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center regarding human remains in trash bags near his driveway.

According to the Dayton Daily News, an officer found a white tarp that “smelled to be a deceased human with flies around the bag.” The police report shows that the officer found two human legs, but no blood, inside the bag.

It is reported that a statement from Kettering Police detective Amy Pedro shows that “the legs belonged to Edgar Keiter Sr.” Witnesses placed Keiter Jr. at the Old Dayton Road address the night before the gruesome discovery was made.

Dayton Daily News reports that police and multiple crime scene units were at Keiter Sr.’s address on April 26. They also reported that neighbors told police that Keiter Jr. had been “observed clearing out the apartment” the week prior and driving his father’s vehicle.

Dayton Daily News says that the police incident report shows that the carpet in the residence had been pulled up, and there appeared to be an area where bleach may have been poured on the floor.

According to the Dayton Daily News, police documents show that a tarp, rope, a saw, and a saw blade were collected into evidence.

A storage unit rented in Keiter Jr.’s name was also searched, where the Dayton Daily News reports police found more body parts with bags matching the bags in which the legs were found.

A bloodstained carpet from Keiter Sr.’s home was found in a garage behind his son’s residence, the news outlet reports.

According to the Dayton Daily News, the three “tampering with evidence” charges are third-degree felonies, while “abuse of a corpse” is a fifth-degree felony. It is reported that court records show the alleged offenses occurred between April 12 and May 1.
