California Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Supplying Fentanyl Linked to Teen Overdoses in Virginia
ABINGDON, Va. – In a recent federal court ruling, Alexander Ortiz, 26, also known as "LoLife," of Fullerton, California, has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for his involvement in supplying fentanyl linked to a series of teenage overdoses in Wise County, Virginia. Ortiz pleaded guilty in January 2023 to charges of conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

CASTLEWOOD, Va. — The last few seasons have been forgettable for the Blue Devils. They didn’t pick up a win last year and now have 37 losses in a row. The previous win was a 60-47 victory at Twin Valley on December 21, 2021. However, hope is on the horizon—Castlewood returns ten lettermen, including four starters. The Relay for Life of the Clinch River Valley recently honored an Abingdon restaurant for its role in combating cancer. Area restaurants were asked to sell “pink drinks” throughout Oct. to support the American Cancer Society’s First Annual Pink Drink Campaign. The restaurant selling the most “pink drinks” was Bonefire Smokehouse BBQ in Abingdon.

LEBANON, Va. — The Lady Pioneers surprised some fans last year with a 15-10 overall record. Lebanon finished second in the Hogoheegee in the regular season and tournament, runner-up to Rural Retreat. The problem is they graduated standout Morgan Varney. The smooth Varney averaged 20 points a game and led the girls in points, rebounds, steals, free throws made, and shooting percentage.

Virgie pastor encouraging church to reach community with gospel
VIRGIE, Ky. (KT) – Thomas Reid knew very little about eastern Kentucky when he accepted the call to become the pastor of Virgie Baptist Church nearly two years ago. However, he and his wife, Tara, have grown to love the people and the small vibrant church where he is pastor. For the second year in a row, the church put on a Bethlehem Walk-Thru and 85 percent of the church participated. The community showed up big, too, with 185 coming through over two days.
