Abingdon man killed in motorcycle crash, police say
BLAND COUNTY, Va. (WCYB) — An Abingdon man was killed in a motorcycle crash that happened on Sunday afternoon in Bland County, according to Virginia State Police. Police said a 2011 Harley Davidson HARLX1200 driven by 34-year-old Jarrod Chafin was going north on Interstate 77 at mile marker 56 when it veered to the right and struck a guardrail.

Abingdon veteran killed in Pearl Harbor attack accounted for
WASHINGTON (WCYB) — An Abingdon veteran who was killed in the Pearl Harbor attack has been accounted for, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). On December 7, 1941, Seaman First Class James Holzhauer, 23, of Abingdon, was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Holzhauer.
