DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Firefighters had a busy Saturday on one street in Danville as they responded to two house fires in two hours.

Both fires happened on East Seminary Street. The first incident was in the 1100 block, where the Danville Fire Department arrived just after 1:10 p.m.

Heavy smoke was seen coming from the roof of a house when firefighters arrived. Though crews were told that no people were inside the structure, two cats were found in a search. Both were removed from the home and brought to safety. No people were hurt.

The fire was brought under control within minutes. It was determined to have started due to a malfunctioning power cord in a bedroom.

Department officials said the home suffered $45,000 in damages. The scene was cleared by 2:50 p.m.

But it was from one scene and straight to another as a neighbor called in a separate house fire. Luckily, it was right down the street in the 800 block of East Seminary.

Fire crews arrived by 3 p.m. and found smoke coming from the reported home. A fire in the kitchen area was quickly brought under control.

Firefighters remained on scene until just after 5 p.m. to snuff out any hidden fires that remained.

No one was hurt in the second fire, though $32,000 in house damages were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
