San Quentin death row inmate found dead in his cell may have committed suicide
A man who was condemned to death row at San Quentin State Prison in 1998 was found dead in his cell Monday and authorities are investigating it as a suicide, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Daniel Jenkins, 68, was discovered unresponsive in his cell and pronounced deceased by Marin County Fire Medical Emergency Services at 6:59 a.m., according to the state. The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy; however, the death is being investigated as a suicide. Jenkins was sent to death row on Oct. 6, 1998 in Los Angeles County for first-degree murder armed with a firearm, conspiracy to commit a crime, and first-degree attempted murder, according to the CDCR.Jenkins was convicted of killing an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department Detective in 1985 as he picked up his six-year-old son from daycare. The officer had just testified in a case against Jenkins.
San Francisco police arrest 60 suspects, seize 2 firearms in Tenderloin enforcement operation
Police in San Francisco continued to focus on drug enforcement in the Tenderloin District last week, conducting an operation that netted over a half a pound of narcotics, two firearms and 60 arrests in a single day.The operation, which occurred throughout the day on April 24, was planned by the city's Drug Market Agency Coordination Center (DMACC). Police said five of the 60 individuals arrested were suspected of possession for narcotics sales. 4-year-old girl kidnapped in Redwood City found safe after police chase; father arrested
A 4-year-old Southern California girl was found and reunited with her mother in "a matter of minutes" on Saturday in Redwood City after the mother flagged down deputies saying the child had been kidnapped, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. "The time between our deputies being flagged down and the reunification was a matter of minutes, not hours," Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gretchen Spiker said in a text.
