Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The Dallas Cowboys should try to sign CeeDee Lamb before prices for star wide receivers skyrocket.

Talented wideouts, such as Philadelphia's A.J. Brown ( three years, $96M ) and Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown ( four years, $120.01M ), signed lucrative extensions this offseason. Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson — entering the final year of his rookie contract — is next in line.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated suggested three-time Pro Bowler Jefferson could receive $90M-$100M on a new deal over the next three years. Breer added if Jefferson signs an extension before Lamb, the Cowboys WR's price tag may increase significantly.

This season, Lamb will make $17.991M in the final year of his rookie contract, below his market value. Spotrac estimates his market value is a four-year deal worth $33.7M annually.

During a recent appearance on Cowboys edge-rusher Micah Parsons' podcast "The Edge," Lamb said he wants to become one of the highest-paid WRs in the league. He also skipped the beginning of OTAs on Tuesday and isn't expected to return until mini-camp, via Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The Cowboys could franchise tag Lamb in 2025, but solidifying the three-time Pro Bowler's future makes more sense. In 17 games last season, he recorded a league-high 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdown catches.

The Cowboys are in a tight financial position. According to Spotrac, they only have $1.925M in cap space, 29th in the NFL. However, Dallas should find a way to show Lamb the money.

If the Cowboys wait too long, extending Lamb will become more difficult. They shouldn't risk losing an elite player who could help them squash their 28-year Super Bowl drought.
