Rain chances increase Wednesday through the weekend

May is historically the wettest month of the year and we're starting the month off rather wet. Nothing was showing on the radar across North Texas on Wednesday morning, and Dallas-Fort Worth just missed the rain overnight as a complex of storms cruised along the Red River.

Wednesday will be mainly quiet with temperatures in the low 80s. Late in the afternoon, a large area of shower and thunderstorm activity will break out in West Texas. Some of those storms will be severe, mainly west of Interstate 35W, but as they approach after midnight tonight, the severity drops, and then heavy rain becomes the threat.

A Flood Watch goes into effect at 7 p.m. and runs until 1 p.m. Thursday for areas just south and east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Most of the rain should be east of DFW by late Thursday morning. Lows will drop into the upper 60s.

A weak cold front will slide towards North Texas late Thursday afternoon through the evening hours. Some shower and thunderstorm activity will break out to our northwest along the front and may survive as they work their way south and east overnight. Highs tomorrow will be near 80 degrees.

On-and-off storm chances are in the forecast this weekend. It's hard to pinpoint when and where it will rain, but just keep an umbrella handy. As of now, it looks like the best chance will be late Saturday into the first part of Sunday. Highs will be near 80 degrees through the weekend.

We dry out and heat up for the first part of next week.
