Prior to conducting business, the Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD school board took time out to recognize another set of champions, this one from West and South elementaries and Daingerfield Junior High.

The board honored the campuses’ UIL competitors prior to the start of the Jan. 22 meeting, then the board itself was recognized for National School Board month.

“ We appreciate the opportunity to serve this community,” said board president Neil Roney. “ We are excited about our school and our students.”

The board heard from Tim Holt and Scott Murray of Thomas and Thomas CPA, who presented the district’s audit. The district received a clean opinion and has $8,612,313 left in the fund balance. The board voted to mark $2 million of that balance toward construction of the new weight room, concession areas and restrooms at Mickey Mayne Stadium and $500,000 for vehicle purchase. Any purchases toward those goals made through those funds would be approved by the board and the money does not have to be spent unless necessary for those instances.

Construction on the weight room project has reached phase two and is expected to be completed by the start of football season with the majority of the work expected to take place during April and May.

“ The construction of the restrooms should be seamless additions since the plumbing is already in on the project,” said Heath Agin.

The board also heard from Daingerfield FFA advisor Kahyon Freeman, who discussed needed repairs to the high school’s agricultural building. The board unanimously approved making repairs to the building.

The board also discussed a donation from Texas Heritage National Bank of a scoreboard at Mickey Mayne Stadium. No action was taken on that item as the board wishes to have further discussions on the scoreboard issue.

The board also approved ordering a trustee election as well as a special trustee election for May 4. The seats of Ricky Tigert and Randy Terry are up in the trustee election and the seat of Mary Davis is up in the special trustee election.
