Mason County Eastern races past Big Rapids Crossroads for first win of the season
CUSTER - The Mason County Eastern Cardinals raced out to a 19-0 lead after one quarter of play on their way to a decisive 52-9 win over visiting Big Rapids Crossroads on Wednesday evening. The win evens up the Cardinals’ record in the West Michigan “D” League at 1-1 (1-2 overall), while the Cougars fall to 0-2 in league play. Mason County Eastern will stay at home to host Brethren on Friday, Dec. 8. Big Rapids Crossroads will play their third straight road game to open the season on Friday night at Baldwin.

MANISTEE, MI - This year’s Victorian Sleighbell Parade slayed with horse-drawn Christmas trees, new inflatables and appearances by Santa Claus and Miss Michigan. Teams of horses pulled two upright Christmas trees on sleighs down the parade route. The first was around 15 feet tall and pulled by two large horses. The second, the parade finale, was about 35 feet tall - taller than surrounding buildings - and pulled by four horses.

LUDINGTON - The Ludington Orioles used their full-court press to take a quick 19-6 lead on visiting Traverse City St. Francis, en route to a 60-49 non-conference triumph on Wednesday night. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw, also referred to as the 'Christmas Tree Ship' for its role in donating trees to families in need, has returned an anchor it recovered from a 1895 shipwreck in Lake Michigan. The anchor originally belonged to the schooner Kate Kelly. The ship was on its way to Chicago for its tree donation mission when it detoured to return the anchor.
