CULLMAN, Ala. – During the early months of 2024, the management and staff at Slim Chickens in Cullman started searching for ways to give back to the community and make a difference in the lives of patrons. The restaurant began a “Share the Love” campaign, with $1 of every chicken and waffles purchase in February set aside for The Link of Cullman County. The Link is a nonprofit resource for struggling community members and families.

Recently, thanks to the campaign, Slim Chickens donated more than $1,500 to The Link. One of the restaurant’s owners, Jessie Barrett, handed over a check for $1,597 to The Link on Friday, April 26.

“We first aim to be a restaurant in the community, but also a community-based restaurant,” said Barrett. “In February, we sold 1,597 waffles, so on behalf of me and my team, I am happy to present this check for $1,597 to The Link of Cullman County.”

The Link Executive Director Melissa Betts expressed her gratitude for the donation, sharing, “The Link of Cullman County is so thankful for community partners like Slim Chickens. This donation will help continue to feed families in need in our community over the next month. Our pantry serves around 550-600 households per month with food, and donations from our community are the primary way the pantry is funded.”
