GPD warns of traffic delays during GRU transformer maintenance
The Gainesville Police Department is advising motorists to expect delays this weekend as Gainesville Regional Utilities crews perform maintenance on a transformer at one of the city's busiest intersections. In a July 23 social media post, GPD said GRU notified the department that crews will conduct transformer maintenance at the intersection of Archer Road and Southwest 34th Street on July 25, at 8 a.m. and again at 8 p.m. Each maintenance period is expected to last about one hour, during which traffic signals at the intersection will be temporarily inoperable. Police officers will be stationed at the intersection to direct traffic and help keep vehicles moving safely, according to GPD. The department is encouraging drivers to plan ahead, expect delays and use extra caution while traveling through the area. "We appreciate your patience while GRU completes these necessary infrastructure improvements," GPD wrote in the post.
