One Step Closer: Norwayne's win over Waynedale puts Bobcats ahead in WCAL baseball race
APPLE CREEK — About 21 hours earlier, Norwayne left its home field wondering what could have been. But it also knew the potential for redemption came with the sunrise. A day after watching Waynedale rally for an extra-innings victory, the Bobcats jumped on the Golden Bears in the first inning and never looked back on their way to a huge 8-4 Wayne County Athletic League win.
High school softball: Baby raccoon steals the show as Wadsworth rolls over Medina Christian
WADSWORTH — The Wadsworth softball team found itself a new mascot named Mr. Willy Wonka on Tuesday. The athletes formerly known as the Grizzlies had a ton of laughs and took plenty of photographs with the orphaned infant raccoon that freshman Delayna Demiter’s grandfather, Greg Gordon, rescued from the side of the road earlier that afternoon. Gordon brought the raccoon to his daughter April to help nurse it back to health until it is ready to be released back into the wild.

Athletes from Copley and St. Vincent-St. Mary high schools won the voting for the Summit County High School Athlete of the Week for April 22-28. Alexis Walker of Copley is the girls winner and Connor Christie of STVM wins for the boys. Walker is a softball player and Christie is a baseball player. Walker received 52.78% of the votes cast.
