UNION COUNTY, IA — Tornado victims spent much of the day salvaging what they could in Creston and Afton. The National Weather Service says the EF-2 tornadoes hit Union County from just before 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Friday night.

Several homes along Highway 34 outside Creston were lost. One resident saw the tornadoes coming right at his home and took cover in the basement. Brad Dukes says, “Soon as we hit the basement, our ears popped and just mass destruction.”

The storm also caused significant damage to a senior living facility.

Storm victims tell us their neighbors showed up without prompting. Dukes says, “We don’t know where to turn, what to do. Luckily, we’ve got lots of friends and family coming out, showing up, not even calling them. They’re just showing up.”
