BUSY WEEKEND FOR INDIANA COUNTY FIRST RESPONDERS
As the snow started to fall Friday night, Indiana County’s first responders were busy with several incidents within 24 hours. The first incident was reported around 8:00 PM as Cherryhill and Pine Township fire departments were dispatched to a location on Pine Flats Road for what was classified by Indiana County 911 as an “unknown-type fire.” That was followed by a two-vehicle accident reported on Route 286 East in Glen Campbell Borough at 9:42 PM. Another accident occurred on 286 West in Young Township, around 11 PM.
Police: Punxsy Woman Charged After Dragging Victim into Apartment While ‘Beating on Her’
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A hearing is set for tomorrow for a local woman accused of dragging a woman into her apartment during an altercation in Punxsutawney Borough. According to court documents, a preliminary hearing for 31-year-old Tiffany Fawn Arlene Beatty, of Punxsutawney, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, with Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock presiding.
MARION CENTER SCHOOL BOARD HEARS FROM CITIZENS ON RECONFIGURATION ISSUE
Last night, the Marion Center School Board heard from some citizens who were against the proposed reconfiguration of the district’s elementary schools. In a letter posted to the district website in late January, the proposed realignment would bring pre-k to2nd grade to Rayne Elementary School with arrival to begin at 8:40 AM and dismissal at 3:45 PM and make W.A. McCreery elementary a 3rd to 6th grade school with arrival to start at 7:30 AM and dismissal at 2:47 PM. Last night’s meeting was just a work session, so nothing was approved concerning the proposal, but several district residents voiced their concerns. Adriene Smochek represented a group of concerned parents who said that the public was not being included in the process, and that the decision was not properly vetted.

GAS PRICE JUMPS OVER LAST WEEK
The cost of gas has taken a dramatic jump over the last week. Triple-A reports that the average cost of a gallon of gas across western Pennsylvania is 13 cents a gallon higher than last week, bringing the regional average to $3.65 a gallon. This is lower than last year at this time when the average was at $3.80.

INDIANA BOROUGH COUNCIL TO DISCUSS PROJECT BIDS, EMERGENCY SEWER REPAIR
Indiana Borough Council will meet tonight for the monthly work session and bids for the borough building renovation project will be discussed. On the agenda for a vote tonight is the rescinding of the acceptance of a bid for the electrical work for the building from Mashan, Inc. for $1,294.000, and to accept a new bid from Mashan in the amount of $575,000.
State Police Looking For Missing Teen
State Police in Kittanning are looking for a missing teen that was last seen in Braddock. 15-year-old Londen Paris Nicole Clark is black, 5’4’, 100 pounds, has black hair, brown eyes, a slight discoloration on her left cheek. According to state police, she often wears her hair in a black cap with a butterfly print.

One person was arrested following an incident Friday night in Indiana Borough. Indiana Borough Police responded to the 300 block of North 10th Street shortly before midnight for a possible domestic disturbance. Officers say 24-year-old Brittany Williams of Indiana showed up to the house uninvited and forced her way inside.

INDIANA COUNTY BEAR HARVEST FALLS FOR 2023 SEASON
Indiana County’s bear harvest was down in the 2023 season, falling from 31 to 24. In fact the entire Southwest region was off…a lot. In the nine-county region, only one county had an increase. Beaver County had one bear taken, after having none in 2022. Overall, the harvest for the Southwest fell by 112, from 253 to 141. Neighboring Armstrong County fell from 50 to 41. Westmoreland County dropped from 25 to 13, Cambria County from 44 to only 5. Jefferson County, which is part of the Northwest Region, fell from 80 bears to 51 and Clearfield County, which traditionally has the most bears taken in the area, had only 72 bears taken, after 114 were harvested in 2022. Clearfield County is counted in the Northcentral region.
