With Chesapeake Bay oyster recovery at a crucial point, building on current momentum will increase resiliency to climate change in the region while creating multiple benefits for people and the environment, according to a new report released Feb. 15 by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Eastern Shore of Virginia Master Naturalists add 21 members
(ONANCOCK, VIRGINIA) – Twenty one students graduated as Eastern Shore of Virginia Master Naturalists after completing the Basic Training Course on November 9th. The course combined classroom instruction and field work throughout the Eastern Shore. Diverse topics were taught by leading experts and including subjects such as barrier island and coastal ecology, botany, mammalogy and others.Class venues included the Barrier Islands Center, Chincoteague Bay Field Station, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science Eastern Shore Laboratory and the UVA Coastal Research Center. Field work locations included the Assateague Island National Seashore, Wallops Island, and the Mutton Hunk Fen, Savage Neck Dunes, and Wreck Island Natural Area Preserves.

Two individuals in custody following several robberies and a high speed chase on December 7, 2023 have confessed to two additional robberies near Smithfield. According to Sheriff David Doughty and Sheriff Todd Wessells, on December 7, 2023 several armed robberies were reported to both the Northampton and Accomack County Sheriff’s Offices. At approximately 4:35 am, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an armed robbery at the Cape Charles Royal Farms and at approximately 5:34 am a second armed robbery was reported at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Exmore.

ACCOMACK CO., VA - The Accomack County Board of Supervisors is proposing decreased tax rates as total county property value assessment is expected to rise nearly 25%. According to data presented to the Board on Thursday by County Administrator Michael Mason, projected fair market value of total land and improvements in 2024 is nearly $5.36 billion, a 24.2% increase over last year’s actual fair market assessment of about $4.3 billion.

Man shot several times found inside Accomack County home
ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — A man was rushed to a hospital after being shot several times in New Church late Sunday afternoon, according to the Accomack County Sheriff's Office. In a release on Monday, the Sheriff's Office said when deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Hilltop Drive near Chincoteague Road, they found a residence riddled with bullet holes. Deputies said a man inside the residence called for help, prompting them to enter the home.

Accomack County Shooting Leaves One Man in Intensive Care
NEW CHURCH, VA - The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one man in intensive care yesterday. According to the Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to Hilltop Drive in New Church on February 11th just before 4:30 a.m. on reports of shots fired. There, police say they found a home with multiple gunshots and someone inside calling for help. Deputies entered the home and found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds.
