Princess Anne man escapes from police custody and is apprehended in forest
The Somerset County Sheriff's Office arrested a Princess Anne man Tuesday after he escaped from police custody and led police in a three-hour search. At about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Somerset County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to the Wicomico County Detention Center for a subject being released from their custody but wanted in Somerset County on two circuit court bench warrants. The transfer was successful, and the deputy transported the man to the Somerset County Sheriff's Office for processing.

Mrs. Agnes Estelle Satterwhite, 94, wife of the late Reverend Dr. Edwin Howard Satterwhite, passed away at her home in Parksley, VA on Saturday, June 3, 2023, surrounded by family. Born September 10, 1928 in Spotsylvania County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Douglas M. Flippo and Essie Wright Flippo.
UPDATE: Police Have Arrested an Escapee in Somerset County
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Police have arrested a suspect who escaped custody this afternoon. The suspect has been identified as 23 year-old Nicholas Sapp-Evans, of Princess Anne. Sapp-Evans was wanted for violation of probation, according to Somerset County Sheriff Ronnie Howard. Court records indicate Sapp-Evans was previously charged with escape back in November, and numerous counts of resisting arrest.
Three years for armed robbery near Parksley
A Delaware man pleaded guilty Thursday in Accomack Circuit Court to robbing a local store clerk at gunpoint last year. In accordance with a plea agreement, Judge W. Revell Lewis III sentenced Rodney Oneil Hinmon, of Seaford, to a total of three years of active time in prison for three offenses.

Clara Mae Taylor, 84, of Parksley, wife of William “Willy” Moore, passed away on June 3, 2023 in Parksley, VA. Born on April 5, 1939 in Jamesville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Henry William Ward and Mary Emma Davis. Clara worked for Perdue Farms. She enjoyed cross stitch, crochet, bird watching and being with her family.

Two more indicted for drug offenses in Accomack County
The names of two more Accomack men, who were indicted by a multi-jurisdictional grand jury on drug offenses on May 12, were made public this week. Richard Lee Williams, of Atlantic, was indicted on a third or subsequent count of manufacturing or distributing a Schedule I or II drug. The offense occurred Feb 21. He was arrested on May 25.

For All Seasons and Mid Shore Behavioral Health Offer Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Training
Children who have been hurt and/or neglected within their families in their early years of development can be traumatized by these experiences and find it difficult to feel safe and secure within their families. This is sometimes called developmental trauma. To help local therapists have the tools they need to deal with this trauma, For All Seasons’ Center for Learning, in partnership with Mid Shore Behavioral Health, Inc., recently offered a training program in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), taught by the founder of the DDP modality, Daniel A. Hughes, Ph.D. on May 17-20, 2023. Twenty participating clinicians from across the Shore participated in four days of experiential training, which will increase the region’s capacity to serve and support youth and families affected by early childhood trauma.
Accomack and Northampton join Virginia in reporting increased turkey
RICHMOND, VA- The Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) announced a harvest of 24,447 turkeys during the 2023 spring turkey season (Figure 1). This represents the highest spring turkey harvest ever recorded in Virginia. The previous record was 20,580 set during the 2015 spring hunting season. Ryan Brown, DWR Executive Director, stated “Turkey populations remain healthy and abundant across most of Virginia, enabling hunters to enjoy a record-setting spring turkey season.”
Commissioners Approve School Board Budget At Maintenance Of Effort Level; Mitrecic, Purnell Worry Over Impact On School System
SNOW HILL – The Worcester County Commissioners reiterated their support of a maintenance of effort education budget with a second vote on the matter this week. On Tuesday, in front of a crowd of citizens wearing “Support Our Schools” buttons, the commissioners voted 5-2 to approve a maintenance of effort budget of $100 million for Worcester County Public Schools. Commissioners Joe Mitrecic and Diana Purnell, both of whom have expressed concern with the reduced education funding, opposed the motion.
Competency treatment ordered for suspected killer
Another effort to restore the competency of suspected killer Gary Joseph Fleig for trial was ordered Thursday in Accomack Circuit Court. Judge W. Revell Lewis III and Commonwealth’s Attorney Spencer Morgan agreed the most effective way to achieve the status would be for Fleig to receive consistent treatment at Central State Hospital in Petersburg. That was considered better than out-patient treatment at the local jail, which had been suggested by a psychiatrist. Lewis ordered Fleig be taken to the hospital. It was not known how long the process would take.

Two arrests made in threats to public schools in Somerset County
The Somerset County Sheriff's Office made a pair of arrests Thursday in response to social media posts threatening violence in public schools in its jurisdiction. Shakira Cephus, 28, of Princess Anne was charged with: threat of mass violence, conspiracy to commit assault, illegal possession of regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammo by a prohibited person and contributing to the condition of a child and disorderly conduct.
