    Charges upgraded to murder after woman shot on Southside over weekend dies

    A man is facing charges of murder in the weekend shooting of a woman who died Monday.

    Lieutenant Eryca Gonzalez of the Corpus Christi Police Department's Public Information Office told the Caller-Times by email May 9 that officers responded to a call of a shooting at about 12:09 a.m. Sunday morning, May 5, in the 3600 block of La Paz Drive. Officers arrived at the scene and found a 27-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

    That evening, they arrested 33-year-old Jimmy Tozo Portales for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, CCPD said.

    The charges were upgraded to murder following the woman's death.
