How in the world do you leave the Olde Northender out of your dive bar story [“We (Heart) Dives: An Uncomprehensive, Unscientific Guide to Some of Vermont’s Dankest, Dingiest, Most Beloved Bars,” September 30]? Without disparaging the Other Place, I believe I have the credentials to recognize greatness when it comes to dive bars, and the Olde Northender can hold its own with any dive bar. Additionally, it has a much better dive bar location than the OP. Is your bias showing that you could not have two from Burlington, even though the population would support two?

Popular Burlington brunch spot The Grey Jay to close
The Grey Jay , the Mediterranean-spiced brunch spot nestled at the top of Church Street, is set to close. A real estate listing from VT Commercial says the Burlington space is available for lease, with new operations able to start up in February 2027. The restaurant's owners didn't answer multiple requests for comment from the Burlington Free Press to explain what happened or what the timeline looks like, but chef and co-owner Cara Tobin told Seven Days that the restaurant would officially close Oct. 12. The restaurant opened in December 2022 at 135 Pearl St., where it’s been serving up shawarma wraps, shakshuka and breakfast classics like French toast. That cuisine helped the Grey Jay become a finalist for a 2025 James Beard Award. The building for many years was home to Burlington’s only LGBTQ+ bar and nightclub, Pearl’s, which was later renamed 135 Pearl. The bar was open for 22 years, and Tobin and manager Allison Gibson’s made sure to honor that legacy with a photo collection in the front foyer. Tobin and Gibson opened the eatery as a sister restaurant to Honey Road at the bottom of Church Street. Honey Road is set to celebrate its 10-year anniversary
