City Council actions, April 28, 2025
Outgoing City Council member John Leible was honored for his service by Mayor Greg Turnbow. A public hearing was held for the City’s proposed budget for the Fiscal Year 2026. The budget for this upcoming fiscal year is significantly tighter than in recent years. Most major revenue sources are currently trending down in FY25 compared to FY24, including sales tax, use tax, marijuana tax, interest income, natural gas franchise fees, telephone franchise fees, video service franchise fees and traffic fines. Meanwhile, major cost drivers continue to trend higher, notably personnel costs, health insurance, property/liability insurance, equipment costs, vehicle costs and more. The budget recommends spending down the general fund balance (i.e. reserves or savings) by approximately $350,000. The city maintains healthy reserves, in part to weather temporary downturns. Highlights in the FY2026 proposed budget include: a $1,500 wage adjustment for all employees, three new generators, renovation of the former chamber offices into meeting space, GPS/dash cams for city vehicles, a new septic system for PAWS, additional security in city parks along with two new playground equipment pieces, Clinton Building improvements and stormwater improvements. The next public hearing for the FY2026 budget will be June 2 with Council to vote on the budget June 9.
