'Do not enter the water': Officials urge swimmers to stay out of Lake Erie amid high risk for rip currents through Saturday
CLEVELAND — If your weekend plans included a swim at one of Lake Erie’s beaches, officials with the National Weather Service have issued a Beach Hazards Statement that urges everybody to stay out of the water for now due to a high risk for rip currents at many local swimming spots.

The Northwestern Lehigh softball team proved for the second season in a row that it’s one of the best in the state in the Class 4A bracket. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they have to climb the steep incline that is defending state champion Blue Mountain in order to reach the PIAA 4A championship game.
Where Erie-area kids can get free breakfast and lunch this summer
The Summer Food Service Program will begin providing free meals for children at sites across Erie and Crawford counties on Monday. The U.S. Department of Agriculture program offers meals on weekdays at sites in low-income neighborhoods where children eligible for free and reduced-price meals at school otherwise might not have nutritious meals during the summer.
Extreme Bull Riding in Albion
The Albion Fairgrounds were alive and well on Friday with extreme bull riding, barrel racing and trick riding. Rishell Rodeo Productions and Hanging Bucking Bulls sponsored the event. The night included western vendors, fair and food concession, merchandise and of course, a mechanical bull.

Income for a single person must be at or below $27,861 annually, or $37,814 for a couple. For those unable to attend distribution day, vouchers will be available by appointment only while supplies last.

Like many Erie County residents, I am very interested in the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. As you can also imagine, I take elections and voting seriously. I am an elected official myself, I formerly served on the Erie County Board of Elections as a member of County Council, and I've voted in every election, both primary and general, since I was eligible. I've also voted by mail since the pandemic because of its ease. The greatest benefit of voting by mail, as I see it, is that for some offices where I may not know the candidates(s) well, I can sit down to my computer, Google information while enjoying a cup of coffee and fill out my ballot as I go along.

Driver charged after allegedly leaving crashed car in a field
(WJET/WFXP)– An Erie County man has been charged after state police said he fled the scene of an accident that left his car undriveable. Troopers from PSP Girard were called to the 7700 block of Crane Road on May 3 around 5 p.m. for the crash where the driver had left before they arrived.
