Beloit Memorial will finish out season without head coach Brad Dement
BELOIT — It saddens me to report that Brad Dement will not be on the sidelines coaching Beloit Memorial’s football team for its season finale on Friday night. Truth be told, Dement has been absent for the past two road games and assistant coach Henry Kremnitzer and the rest of the staff have been guiding the team. We learned of Dement’s absence when we tried to contact him for a report on a 27-7 loss at Westosha Central on Oct. 2. He did not return our call and that’s certainly not like him. Normally, the next call would be to a school’s athletic director. Unfortunately, Beloit Memorial has been without one of those since last May when Dan Gratz went on leave and never returned. Robert Douglas was recently hired to replace him, but will not start his job officially until this Friday. When members of the current coaching staff were contacted, they said they were told to not comment on the situation and direct inquiries to School Superintendent Dr. Leah Gordon-Malott. A voice message to her wasn’t returned last week, but an email did receive two quick responses on Tuesday. The School Superintendent stated: “We do not comment on

Football titles, win streaks lead off Rockford area's Week 8 takeaways
No matter how many teams are allowed in the playoffs, this is always the time of year that high school football players start thinking about the future. Even if they're not supposed to start thinking about the future yet. More Rockford-area football: Which Rockford-area football teams helped themselves out in Week 8? "We know we have to take every week one game at a time," Harlem's star wide receiver Jackson Cook said, "but of course, the playoffs are in the back of our minds, and they're coming fast." And while some teams, like Harlem, are also thinking about conference titles and playoff runs, others are just striving to get into the postseason mix. As the IHSA football state playoffs quickly approach, and with a new format that allows for 384 teams to get in, instead of the old 256, this is crunch time for some. Teams that secure (or have secured) four regular-season wins are guaranteed a spot in the postseason. A lot of teams with strong playoff resumes and three wins will make it in, and even some two-win teams could make it in, in some classes. With all that in mind, here are the key takeaways after the

Harlem's stars kickstart Week 8 top performers from Rockford area
The 2026 high school football season is nearing the climax as Rockford-area teams battled in Week 8 games this weekend, starting with Harlem's blowout win over East on Thursday night. The early week game on Thursday, Oct. 8, kicked things off for Week 8, but there was a lot more to come on Friday night, and the action was heated as the regular season nears an end. The final games of the regular season are next week, followed by Round 1 of the new IHSA playoff format kicking off Oct. 16-17. More Rockford-area football: QB Braxton Fausett, Harlem slow down East in Week 8 win But first it was Week 8, and there were a ton of stars that stepped up to the plate.
