COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A man police believe was twice trying to pay retribution for the death of his brother has been arrested for attempted murder.

According to court documents, Columbus police arrested 21-year-old Dillan Bush after an investigation revealed his alleged involvement in the shooting of a man in the 5700 block of Morningstar Drive in the Westland area.

Police said that on Aug. 10, 2023, a man was getting out of his car on Morningstar Drive when an unknown vehicle approached him and a person in the car fired several gunshots at the residence. The victim’s home and car were struck several times, though the man himself was uninjured.

Three weeks later, on Sept. 2 , officers responded to the same area, just two doors from the original incident, and found a 44-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. Several other gunshot holes were found scattered throughout the front of the home, where an unknown individual firing shots drove past.

Detectives later learned that the home was shot at twice previously since April 2023 and that Bush had allegedly made threats to kill a man for the accidental shooting of his brother, David Lee Bush.

David Bush was found dead after a shooting on Columbian Avenue in the Hilltop in March 2019.

The investigation led police to Dillan Bush’s phone, where it was reportedly discovered it was used to convince the unknown individual to shoot at the residence to kill the man responsible for David’s death. Phone records also indicated that Dillan Bush, who was already in jail for a separate incident, was involved in the August 2023 shooting.

Dillan Bush was also serving a three-year community control sentence after pleading guilty to having weapons under disability and firearm specifications related to the possession of drugs. Additionally, he is facing eight counts of having weapons under disability from multiple incidents in the summer of 2023 and another drug and weapons charge from Sept. 2023.

On Wednesday, a Franklin County Municipal Court judge issued Dillan Bush a $1 million bond on charges of attempted felony, attempted murder, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or a school-occupied structure.
