COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — Supermarket chain Kroger has announced it is holding a one-day savings event to help seniors in central Ohio.

In a news release, Kroger’s Columbus Division stated that customers 55 and older can save an extra 5% on their in-store purchases on Wednesday. The offer is good at all Ohio and Ohio Valley store locations.

To receive the discount shoppers can use their Driver’s License or similar ID and alert the cashier of their eligibility. Kroger noted that its store loyalty card will also be accepted as identification to get the price cut.

“At Kroger, we are committed to providing fresh, affordable food for everyone,” said Mark Bruce, Corporate Affairs Manager for Kroger’s Columbus Division. “We know customers are stretching their dollars even more and saving every day with low prices, personalized digital coupons and weekly deals. This extra discount for our senior shoppers is one more way we’re helping our customers get more out of their grocery budget.”

The company suggested using the offer on “pantry staples, fresh produce, over-the-counter medications, household essentials” and indicated that exclusions include “alcohol, tobacco products, fuel, money orders, taxes, postage stamps, gift cards/certificates, lottery, promotional tickets, CRV, prescriptions, and guest or customer service/fees.”
