COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A two-week decline in the average cost of a gallon of gas in the Columbus area erased a recent jump in which the price rose by over a quarter.

After the average gas price in the Columbus metro area climbed up to a 2024 high of $3.69 per gallon two weeks ago, prices dropped by 14 cents, one week after falling 11 cents , back to an average of $3.44, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations.

The current price is 11 cents per gallon lower than one month ago but 9.5 cents higher than one year ago.

The cheapest gas station in the Columbus area was priced at $3.19 a gallon, while the most expensive was $3.75, a difference of 56 cents per gallon. In Ohio, the average price of gas also dropped by 15 cents (14.7) per gallon, from $3.48 per gallon to $3.34 per gallon. Nationally, gas prices fell slightly by one penny to $3.62 per gallon.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, expressed confidence that more relief at the pump is on the way.

“We’ve seen the national average fade slightly again as oil prices have cooled and our spring peak appears to be more confidently behind us,” said De Haan. “With the seasonal factors behind us, looking ahead, we expect gasoline prices to continue cooling alongside diesel prices as we look forward to Memorial Day weekend.”
