    Columbus is in for a rainy weekend, NWS forecast states

    This year's April showers appear to have brought May showers, instead of the flowers promised in the common proverb.

    At least, that's the case for this weekend.

    There's an increasing chance of rain and thunderstorms as Friday continues, especially after 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington . Overall, there's a 60% chance of precipitation Friday afternoon.

    Rainfall could range from a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch, and maybe more if there are thunderstorms.

    Here's what you can expect over the weekend and into next week.

    It's looking like rain, rain, and more rain, according to NWS's 7-day forecast .

    • Friday night : Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 62. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
    • Saturday : A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. East wind around 6 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
    • Saturday Night : Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
    • Sunday : A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
    • Sunday Night : Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
    • Monday : A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
    • Monday Night : A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
    • Tuesday : Showers likely, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
